Seed Starting Workshop — Growing the Season Together
Every garden begins the same way — with a seed, a bit of soil, and someone willing to care for it.
In this hands-on workshop, we’ll slow down and learn the foundations of starting seeds well: how to choose varieties that fit your space, how to sow and care for them, and how to guide young plants into the growing season. You’ll get your hands in the soil, ask questions, and leave with seedlings of your own to tend at home.
We’re joined by Tomia MacQueen of the Ujamaa Cooperative Farming Alliance — an educator, grower, and steward of seed knowledge.
Ujamaa is an incredible collective doing beautiful work to protect seed heritage, support Black farmers, and keep the knowledge of growing alive and in community. Their presence brings a deeper layer to this workshop — a reminder that seeds are not just the start of plants, but part of a much longer story of care and continuity.
Whether you’re brand new or returning to the practice, this is a place to begin (or begin again).
