Growing with the Forest: A Hands-On Agroforestry Workshop
In this free workshop at the Montgomery College Food Forest, we’ll explore how to design and care for multi-layered food forests that follow the patterns of natural forests. Experts Arman and David will demonstrate how trees, shrubs, vines, herbs, groundcovers, perennial crops, and annual vegetables can grow together as a diverse living community.
Participants will learn how to incorporate delicious annual crops among established perennials, make the most of different layers of the food forest, and use thoughtful pruning to guide growth, improve access to light, and encourage greater abundance over time.
This workshop is a great opportunity to learn more about successional agroforestry, see food-forest practices in action, and ask questions about design, planting, pruning, maintenance, and caring for the land through the seasons. All levels of experience are welcome.
