Fall Food Festival 2025
Matt sharing his knowledge about how to make acorn flour
We had a blast in the Montgomery College Food Forest for our first fall food festival. It was awesome to see the space come alive with so many people. This was always our dream: to see the food forests we plant turn into thriving community spaces that help reconnect people to the land, each other and themselves.
We’re so grateful to all the amazing people who made this happen and to all the wonderful educators and knowledge keepers who made the festival so special - Vathany for her pickling wizadry, Matt for his ace acorn flour demo, Rahima for her mastery of the humble yet mighty fig leaf, Sara and Tebabu for their gift of an Ethiopian coffee ceremony, Taylor from SilvoCulture for tirelessly roasting chestnuts on the grill, Suzy for her super seed swap and plant giveaway, Yolanda for her tasty tamales, Lindsey from Here to Home Essentials for battling plastic pollution with her pop up refillery, Danila from The Sanctuary Urban Farm for the delicious honey, Phil for his musical talents, and CFFC volunteers Laura, Amy and Lisa who cooked for two hours straight as kids collected fresh herbs from the food forest, blended them into the fresh pasta they made, and then munched their creations with gusto!
We also want to thank our partners, the amazing folks from SilvoCulture, for the awesome support they’ve given us, advising and guiding us as we installed the second food forest at the Montgomery College Takoma Park/Silver Spring campus. We still have trees, shrubs and native wildflowers to plant this fall so join us on Saturday November 1st for our next volunteer day.
If you like what you see and want to see us continue offering events like these, then please consider supporting our work with a donation.
And if you’d like to use the space for an event you have in mind or would like to get in touch, then please reach out to us.
Thanks so much!
