The Food Forest Kitchen:

Cooking with what the land offers

This series of cooking demonstrations will focus on how to adapt simple recipes to use seasonal ingredients from the food forest. For each demo, guest teacher Hannah Alday will showcase one ingredient sourced from the food forest in several different preparation methods and how you can adapt the recipes using different ingredients and flavors. She’ll also share basic knife skills to streamline your time in the kitchen.  She will be using a fresh ingredient from the food forest, which all guests are welcome to pick and take home after the demo.

When: 1pm to 2pm, May 9th (with two more demos on June 28 and July 12)

Where: Montgomery College Food Forest, 7719 Chicago Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20910  (map here)

Cost: Free. Please do register so we know how many people to expect:

About your teacher

A California native, Hannah Alday has lived in all four corners of the United States - and a few places in the middle. One constant has been Hannah’s love for cooking and playing around with ingredients in the kitchen. She’s worked in a teaching kitchen, community farm, and taught cooking at farmers markets. Hannah’s favorite recipes are plant-forward, extremely forgiving (her 13-month old doesn’t give much time for cooking projects), and use flexible ingredients - so that no dish turns out the same. Hannah views the kitchen as a playground and tries to see even the “failures” as a way to learn more about cooking and personal taste (whether her family agrees is up for debate!)
